The second phase of Are They Triple OK? (ATTOK?)

In December 2020, R U OK? launched the next stage of the national ATTOK? Campaign funded by the Foundation, which focusses on managing and protecting the mental health of police and emergency responders. The Campaign will now reach beyond peers and colleagues, giving the families and friends of first responders the confidence to support their loved ones.

“Even the most resilient police and emergency services personnel can be affected by stress and trauma related to their work or as a result of other life challenges. Family and friends are often the first to notice when someone they care about is struggling. When you notice the signs, the best thing you can do is check in with them and ask, Are you OK?”  www.ruok.org.au

The second phase of the national, grassroots ATTOK? Campaign was launched in December by James Maskey, a member of the R U OK? Campaign Advisory Group. James offers direct and relevant insight as the former National Engagement Manager of the Beyond Blue Police and Emergency Services Program, and as a retired front-line Queensland Police Officer.

As he explains:

“As a former frontline emergency service worker, I’m so grateful that a campaign like this exists. I really believe that it will continue to have a lasting impact on the emergency services sector, and provide colleagues, friends and family with the confidence to have life changing (and potentially lifesaving) conversations. I’ve loved watching this campaign grow and shape into the resource that it is today. I’ve also enjoyed watching the emergency services sector organically embracing mental health conversations and the ATTOK? Materials”.

This next phase is built around four key pillars of Awareness, Education, Engagement and Action, to help ensure effectiveness of the campaign year-round. It includes a new Conversation Guide tailored specifically for Family and Friends, a webinar series, free e-learning modules, social media assets, advertising and a content series to highlight real world examples of conversations in detail.

The new Conversation Guide helps you to learn when and how to ask  “Are you OK?” and respond appropriately if someone says, “No, I’m not.

”You can find this guide on the ‘Are They Triple OK’ landing page -

This will be further supported by a peer support “champions” model; recruiting and providing a guide to enable internal champions to drive positive change within their immediate working environment. Further support will also be provided to head office teams to enable and equip them to embed the campaign within existing programs (case studies, training materials/presentations).

The R U OK? team is especially excited about the opportunity this next phase provides to deepen the offering of tools and resources to empower “champions” to own and be a real part of the ATTOK Campaign’s growth and success.
