Increasing our commitments into 2021

The Pinnacle Charitable Foundation Board met in late November to review partnerships due for annual review. Each of the four applications put forward was approved for joint funding together with Affiliates, and one new commitment was pledged, for total donations of $180,000. Recipients are:

CMRI (Children’s Medical Research Foundation) – For the fourth year, Plato and Res Cap (with increased funding provided) have joined with the Foundation to help CMRI purchase specialised pieces of equipment, for the benefit of researchers across CMRI and the Institute’s external research partners.

In 2021 support is being directed to the Eye Genetics Unit, enabling the purchase of a suite of equipment. A fluorescent microscope will provide the ability for quick and sensitive screening and visualisation of cells, together with a plate reader capable of detecting luminescence and of performing rapid functional testing of cells. A gel documentation system will enable the identification, quantification and analysis of proteins and nucleic acids in gels and membranes.

AARF (Australian Alzheimer’s Research Foundation) – In WA, cutting edge research to identify cell changes in the first stages of Alzheimer’s disease will continue following promising results in the early formal analysis of tissue samples. Jointly funded with Spheria, this work builds on initial research undertaken by AARF with our support in 2020, to source, collect, prepare and transport the identified samples.  https://alzheimers.com.au/

Mirabel - In collaboration with Firetrail, funding will continue to enable Intensive Support Programs to be offered to hundreds of children in the NSW Hunter Valley region who are abandoned due to parental drug abuse. In 2020 we helped Mirabel formally establish their presence in the Hunter region, nurturing and guiding children in the region who have been severely impacted as a result of their parents’ drug usage, as well as offering advice and comfort to their kinship carers.

Yalari - Together with ResCap (with an increased donation), a Rosemary Bishop Scholarship will enable a young Indigenous girl from Moree in NSW to begin her boarding school journey, starting in Grade 7 at Kambala Church of England Girls’ School in Sydney’s Rose Bay.

Funding is also supporting this year’s Orientation Camp for new students on the Gold Coast, which due to border restrictions has seen only limited numbers of children able to physically attend. Core elements have been adapted for delivery online and remotely, so all year 7 and 8 students can connect with each other and gain valuable insights into managing life in boarding school.  www.yalari.org
